Our Family

All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.

They must be felt with the heart.

I'd Marry You Again

BRIAN AND JODI WEDDING JUNE 22 1991
Photobucket

I’d Marry You Again

With tiny tears that glistened, my eyes were fixed on you,
and thinking of the life we’d share as softly said, “I do.”

Our hearts were knit together from the time that we first met,
and memories were gathered that we never will forget.

While daily living life with you, you saw the real in me,
and still you chose acceptance, a loving mystery.

With many happy times gone by and others when we cried,
some days we’d share so endlessly, while other days we’d hide.

With all the ups and downs we’ve had in learning to be friends,
I know that in this heart of mine, I’d marry you again.

Poem by Anne Peterson

JUST A LITTLE SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU LAUGH

This is funny. I do not know if this is true or not. But it will make you chuckle.

Why our country is in trouble A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples of 'why' our country is in trouble!

1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!)

2. I got a call from a candidate's staffer, who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then she interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts .'' Without trying to make her look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts , Capetown is in Africa ''Her response -- click.

3. A senior Vermont Congressman called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando . He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried t o explain that's not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state. He replied, 'don't lie to me, I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state!'' (OH MY)

4. I got a call from a lawmaker's wife who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada ?''I said, ''No.''She said, ''But they look so close on the map.'' (OH MY, again!)

5. An aide for a cabinet member once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas . I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas . When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, ''I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.'' (Aghhhh)

6. An Illinois Congresswoman called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m.I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois , but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.

7. A New York lawmaker called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?'' I said, 'No, why do you ask?'She replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!''After putting her on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno , Ca. is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on her luggage.

8. A Senator's aide called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii . After going over all the cost info, she asked, ''Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii ?''

9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman who asked, ''How do I know which plane to get on?''I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ''I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.''

10. A lady Senator called and said, ''I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola , Florida . Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?''I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola , FL on a commuter plane. She said, ''Yeah, whatever, smarty!''

11. A senior Senator called and had a question about the documents he needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded him that he needed a visa. 'Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those.'' I double checked and sure enough, his stay required a visa. When I told him this he said, ''Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!''

12. A New Mexico Congress woman called to make reservations, ''I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York .''I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ''Are you sure that's the name of the town?'''Yes, what flights do you have?'' replied the lady. After some searching, I came back with, ''I'm sorry, ma'am, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a rhino anywhere."''The lady retorted, ''Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!''So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ''You don't mean Buffalo , do you?''The reply? ''Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.''

Now you know why the Government is in the shape that it's in!Could anyone be this DUMB? YES, THEY WALK AMONG US, ARE IN POLITICS, AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREED. I don't write it, I just offer it for your consideration. Like manure, you just gotta spread it around.

A TEXAS BLESSING --- YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN TEXAS IN JULY WHEN . . .

A TEXAS BLESSING
Note: If you are not a resident of Texas
or never have lived in the hot, humid South,
you may not understand the weight of this blessing!
Bless this house, oh Lord, we cry.
Please keep it cool in mid-July.
Bless the walls where termites dine,
While ants and roaches march in time.
Bless our yard where spiders pass
Fire ant castles in the grass.
Bless the garage, a home to please
Carpenter beetles, ticks and fleas.
Bless the love bugs, two by two,
The gnats and mosquitoes that feed on you.
Millions of creatures that fly or crawl,
In Texas , Lord, you've put them all!!
But this is home, and here we'll stay,
So thank you Lord,
for insect spray.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN TEXAS IN JULY WHEN. . . .
The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.
Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
The cows are giving evaporated milk.
Ah, what a place to call home. .
God Bless The State of TEXAS !!!

THE FUNERAL YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT

Shifty Powers
E Co. 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division
News 'n Notes
While everyone was busy with Michael Jackson, here is the funeral you should have been thinking about.
This is an email forwarded by a friend . We are not sure exactly who the orginal author is, but we believe the story to be true, and we have verified the history and accomplishmenst of Mr. Shifty Powers, E Co. 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division.

We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers. Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry.
If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat.Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st.. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made.Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 . . . " at which point my heart skipped. At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped.I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland , into Arnhem ." I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . . and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day. I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said "Yes. And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say.I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach. He said
"No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy."
His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this.Shifty died on June 17 [2009 in] after fighting cancer. There was no parade. No big event in Staples Center .No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage. No weeping fans on television. And that's not right.Let's give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own quiet way. Please forward this everyone you know.
Especially to the veterans.
Rest in peace, Shifty."

WHEN LIFE GIVES ME...

"WHEN LIFE GIVES ME . . .
When life gives me . . .
When life gives me dark clouds and rain,
I appreciate the moisture
That brings a soft curl to my hair.
When life gives me sunshine,
I gratefully turn my face up
to feel its warmth on my cheeks.
When life brings fog,
I hug my sweater around me and give thanks for the cool shroud of mystery
That makes the familiar seem different and intriguing.
When life brings snow,
I dash outside to catch the first flakes on my tongue,
relishing the icy miracle that is a snowflake.
Life’s events and experiences are like the weather
they come and go, no matter what my preference.
So, what the heck?!
I might as well decide to enjoy them.
For indeed,
there is a time for every purpose under heaven.
And each season brings its own unique blessings.
- BJ Gallagher

I am thankful for . . .
a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing
because it means I have a home. . .
I am thankful for the file of laundry and ironing
because it means my loved ones are nearby.

PRECIOUS PRESENT

"This is the precious present, regardless of what yesterday was like, regardless of what tomorrow may bring. When your inner eyes open, you can find immense beauty hidden within the inconsequential details of daily life. When your inner ears are open, you can hear the subtle, lovely music of the universe everywhere you go. When the hear of your heart opens, you can take deep pleasure in the company of the people around you – family, friends, acquaintances, or strangers – including those whose characters are less than perfect, just as you character is less than perfect. When you are open to the beauty, mystery, and grandeur of ordinary existence, you “get it” that it always has been beautiful, mysterious, and grand and always will be. – Timothy Ray Miller
When I first open my eyes upon the morning meadows and look out upon the beautiful world, I thank god I am alive.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
. . . . .
Gratefulness is the key to a happy life the at we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no mater how much we have, we will not be happy – because we will always want to have something else or something more.
-David Steindl - Rast
. . . . .
If there is a sin against this life, it consists perhaps not so much in despairing of life as in hoping for another life and in eluding the implacable grandeur of this life. - Albert C..

MAY YOU BE BLESSED

"MAY YOU BE BLESSED
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melody Beattie

When we choose not to focus on what is missing from our live but are grateful for the abundance that’s present . . . we experience heaven on earth.”

As you wander through life, brother, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut, and not upon the hole.

Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted- a paved road or a washing machine? If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul. – Rabbi Harold Kushner

The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings. – Eric Hoffer

When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.

SISTERS

"SISTERS...
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes..
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT..........
Sisters are there,
no matter how much time and how
many miles are between you.
A girl friend is never farther away
than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you
have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life
will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,
praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on
your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the
valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk
beside you...Or come in and carry you out..
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,
daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and
neither would I. When we began this adventure called
womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or
sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we
would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still."
"I am.......because my little dog knows me.

Someone has just figured out, that we have 35,000 laws to enforce the Ten Commandments!

The entire sum of existence is the magic of being needed by just one person"

PEROXIDE

Did you know this about Peroxide? This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share it with you. She was over recently and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me:I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach cost?My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the Nurses who work in the doctor's offices , and ask them if they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better!Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine, folks! And it was used to kill our troops.. Peroxide was invented during WWI in the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this:1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria..5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day . My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and ho ld it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty blonde. ** It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change.11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils fungus, or other skin infections.12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner! This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it, too. I've known that with an infection, a bit of peroxide on that will fizz and help to cure the infection. I've also known that if you had a dog that's flea infested, a bit of peroxide in it's bath water will kill them immediately. But never thought of all the above uses. It is a very useful bottle to have in your home.
